CaptainSpam's bonus doodles
February 2004
(turn on word wrap now if you can)
---------------------------

One more time! February found me doing a few more Scratchpad Omega experiments. Though I love my mini doodles in my notes, the extra space a big sheet of 9x12 sketchbook paper gives me is always a treat. If I can actually fill it. Anyhoo.

Also, watch for Bean Man Week!

---------------------------

20040201GirlWithBigHair.jpg: I don't remember what I was trying to do, but I wound up with this girl with massive hair. I kinda like it.

20040202DoMBnormTheRavenous.jpg: Ever wonder what goes on in the unused parts of my comic pages? Here's a sample. Plus the first doodle of Bnorm the Ravenous, a whole two strips before I used him.

20040203Scales.jpg: Scales. Coffee is worth its weight in gold, as you can see.

20040207DoMStephanieSkirts.jpg: The month wouldn't be complete without more test doodles of Stephanie, now, would it? This time, it's skirt experimentation. Every single one of these are failures! How 'bout that?

20040210BlindDateRobotTest.jpg: For Valentine's Day, Comixpedia held a Blind Date event. Put simply, you sign up, get paired at random with someone else who signed up, and the two of you make a comic about romance. My partner and I decided on a robot sorta thing. I was assigned to art, so here's the first test of said robot. Got him right first shot.

20040211BlindDateGirlTest.jpg: The girl in the Blind Date thing. I didn't quite have her face down yet.

-- BEAN MAN WEEK! --

20040212BeanManStopBeat.jpg: BEAN MAN can't stop the beat!

20040213BeanManCrocodile.jpg: BEAN MAN isn't particularly good at crocodile hunting!

20040214BeanManProblem.jpg: BEAN MAN isn't a part of this problem!

20040215BeanManMarioBros.jpg: BEAN MAN should jump now!

20040216BeanManLog.jpg: BEAN MAN isn't big, heavy, or wood!

20040217BeanManEWJ.jpg: BEAN MAN just beat Earthworm Jim!

20040218BeanManSoup.jpg: BEAN MAN soup!

-- END BEAN MAN WEEK --

20040219DoMbCxAd2.jpg: Lines for what was GOING to be the second bCx ad tower until I ran out of money. Now it's the fourth QSC box.

20040220DoMStephanieDressTest1.jpg: THIS time I think I've got something. Of course, all this is going to be for just one plot. I can't have a character like Stephanie and only give her one outfit, now, can I? That just wouldn't be fun enough.

20040222BladeChick.jpg: A blade girl. I had some DAMN fun time with the details on this one. I'm proud.

20040226BladeChick2.jpg: Erm. Didn't do as well this time.

20040228PetieMattColorTest.png: This one isn't even mine! My good friend Petie of Labgoats, Inc. took an old vote doodle and applied a Scary-Go-Round sort of coloring job to it. The result is this.

20040229DoMEvilPhinnMk2.jpg: Remember Evil Phinn from December? The slightly more S&M-themed Evil Phinn? Yeah, ignore that one. THIS is where it's at. One hell of a lot more sinister, definitely more evil, and it plays off her normal robe much better. Awww, yeah.

Some notes:

Petie draws Labgoats, Inc, at <http://labgoats.com/>. The style he was shooting for was that of Josh Allison's comic, Scary-Go-Round, at <http://www.scarygoround.com/>

If you don't understand Bean Man Week, don't worry, not too many people do. Just accept it as absurdist comedy and move on.

No, seriously, I like the Mk2 Evil Phinn better.

The Blind Date project was a co-production with Lord Pi of MooComic, at <http://moocomic.keenspace.com/>.

Spam out.
