CaptainSpam's bonus doodles
September 2003
(turn on word wrap now if you can)
---------------------------

I've always liked doodling in my class notes. So I figured I may as well scan them off and bribe people to vote for them. I mean hey, it works out well for everyone, right? I get more votes, you get crazy doodles, right? Right.

(Note, in the vote screens, I mentioned what class I drew all these in... I won't do that here, because I'm not about to be buggered to go hunt down every date in my notes)

---------------------------

20030903DoMAlexDangle.jpg: I wanted to try drawing Alex in a pose I haven't needed her in yet. Y'know, expand my horizons, make my drawing style more flexible if I need it. Yes, I did draw Alex upside-down for simplicity, but that doesn't necessarily help get all the inverted effects right (ponytail, sleeves, etc. dangling downward).

20030904DoMMattQuickSlash.jpg: Matt quickly taking a slash at something. A bit more practice with action poses.

20030905VitaminCMackIsNotACrook.jpg: Mack is not a crook. This was the header pic for my PS100 class, Intro To American Politics. I think it works.

20030906ColdFaced.jpg: Experimenting with a different drawing method (as opposed to the normal acorn-style head and other body construction bits I use in the DoM). I wanted to make someone with a rather cold look on her face. I'm not sure if I succeeded.

20030907StrangeCreatures.jpg: Believe it or not, the Nasal Fly was originally part of a set of creatures I was going to use for a completely different comic called "Strange Creatures". These are three of the other characters. Yes, Bean Man was going to be in there, too.

20030908ExclaimSpamAlexDDR.jpg: Captain Spam and Alex on DDR pads. This was actually me testing the ability to copy a pose between two characters. Which proved insanely difficult with Alex, since I had to make sure it looked fairly convincing that her legs were in the same pose as Captain Spam's, but obscured by her skirt.

20030909SalesDemon2.jpg: I swear, I've gotta use him somewhere...

20030910Scream.jpg: Just scream. It's fun!

20030911SignPost.jpg: My brother and I used to always draw signposts like these during Quiz Bowl meets back in high school.

20030912GetYou.jpg: Well, whoever she is, she just doesn't get you.

20030913Knifey.jpg: Just avoid him.

20030914DoMAlexEffect.jpg: I've gotta practice more of my ability to draw magic effects. Like this magic wind here. I mean, you're not REALLY drawing a magic universe unless you can go all powerful once in a while.

20030915DoMJacobBagpipes.jpg: You would NOT believe how much fun this was to draw.

20030916FunkBot67.jpg: Gettin' DOWN with its bad robot self! My friend Bluez told me he looks a lot like my old Mr. Spicy Robot drawings, but groovier. Like, Mr. Spicy Robot's dad or something.

20030917DoMBeatnikMatt.jpg: His expression just makes this.

20030918MaltovBartender.jpg: My PS100 professor, in any of his discussions about how the people can have power in politics, will almost invariably end with something like "...and if that fails, all you've got left is a Dr Pepper bottle, gasoline, and detergent", or something like that. Whatever would make a handy moltov cocktail.

20030919BeanManChuckJones.jpg: Bean Man pays tribute to Chuck Jones!

20030920DoMMattHammockNap.jpg: I swear, amongst my two favorite DoM poses to draw are Matt snoozing in the hammock or Alex snoozing on the couch. This is the former.

20030921VitaminCInsultinglyCutePerson.jpg: I was going somewhere with this. Really, I was.

20030922RainbowOfDeath.jpg: Because EVERY silver lining has its dark cloud.

20030923SpamDrawn.jpg: Captain Spam in the process of being drawn. I once wanted to do a sequence of these with all my major characters.

20030924FuzzyMonster.jpg: I just SO want to give this guy a name.

20030925XtremePoliticalDebate.jpg: When plain old discussion just isn't enough.

20030926DoMMattEnchantedBoots.jpg: Matt scaling a cliff using an enchantment on his reliable boots. In contrast to the one with Alex dangling from a rope, I DID draw this one as it's oriented here (i.e. I didn't rotate the paper).

20030927TeamSpam1.jpg: Ladies and gentlemen, my Worms team from the original Worms (first four members) all the way to Worms World Party. Jim, the noble captain. Mushy, the psychopath. Valanice, the ninja and handgun specialist. Chewed By A Fish, the tough guy and survivor.

20030928TeamSpam2.jpg: Last four. Pocketbook and Spud, the twins; what Pocketbook sets up, Spud destroys. Detroit and Floyd, the cannon fodder.

20030929Fork.jpg: And later I'll draw a fork bomb.

20030930TeamSpamJimBazooka.jpg: Jim's got a bazooka. He's armed.

Some notes:

Mack is a character from another comic idea of mine, Vitamin C. Mack's the world's most miserable grocery store employee. Three guesses as to where I got the idea for him from. Hint: He's an extreme form of me on my job.

Mr. Spicy Robot (see FunkBot67) is another Vitamin C character. The advertising icon for the Mr. Spicy Food Company. Mack hates him. Which is no surprise; Mack hates nearly everything.

Bean Man can't really be explained. He can only be experienced.
